Another great golf day!

Jul 7, 2023 | Events, News

Sunday 25th June saw our 8th annual golf day take place at Birstall Golf Club. It was a gloriously sunny day and we were delighted that the event raised around £6,200 – beating last year’s total of £3,700!

We welcomed 26 teams who competed to win our fabulous prizes. The winning team was led by Jim Dodds, a long time supporter of Birstall BAGs and regular at the golf day. This year, Jim entered four teams and generously donated several prizes. The 1st prize winners were delighted with a four ball voucher for Hollinwell Golf Club in Nottinghamshire, kindly donated by the club who have supported us for the last two years.

Some great photos were taken on the day by Guy Walsh Photography, who gave his time for the day and sold his photos, donating 30% of the sales to BAGs.

As ever, the day was organised by John and Jo Clayton, who work so hard to make the event a success.

We were absolutely overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone that took part this year.  We felt the same last year when we raised £3,700 and thought that we had peaked. You can imagine how thrilled we were when we realised that we had beaten it by such a large amount. It was an extremely hot day and the beer buggy ran dry, meaning we had to restock twice! That’s not happened before!

“A huge thanks to all that took part, donated prizes, bought raffle tickets, bid on auction items and to all those behind the scenes on the day, including Guy Walsh for all of the shots taken on the 1st tee – three and a half hours in that heat! Bring on next year!

We’d like to say a huge thank you to Birstall Golf Club, the teams that entered, and to everyone who donated prizes and took part in the auction. The generosity of our supporters means we can continue to make a difference to local people affected by cancer.
