Supporters of a local cancer charity, Birstall BAGS, have helped raise enough funds to purchase three new hysteroscopes for the gynaecology outpatients clinic at Leicester Royal Infirmary.

The £8,457.75 donation from Birstall BAGS paid for the much needed hysteroscopes which are used by medical staff to investigate and diagnose conditions for patients.

The new hysteroscopes are the latest in design and much smaller, therefore more comfortable for patients. They also produce better quality images than the older ones. In total, the hospital received funding for five new scopes which means patients can be seen and diagnosed much sooner, reducing long waits for diagnosis and delays in treatment.

Emma Shaw of Birstall BAGS commented: “We were delighted to be able to provide the funding for three hysteroscopes. They will hopefully make a big difference to patients, making the diagnosis process quicker and more comfortable. We’d like to thank our supporters for their efforts in fundraising and attending our events – they have made this donation possible.”

Birstall BAGS operates in and around Birstall and Leicestershire and seeks to bring people together to raise funds to support cancer services used by the local community. The charity also takes every opportunity to raise the profile of cancer, particularly with regard to the signs and symptoms, recognising that early diagnosis of cancer really can save lives. Birstall BAGS works with other local charities to provide services that support members of the local community who are living with a diagnosis of cancer.
